IPOH, Dec 21: The Accountant General’s Department (AGD) has targeted 120 government agencies for the Standard Accounting System For Government Agencies (SAGA) compliance certification by 2020.
AGD director (Advisory and Consultancy Division) Rihatun Abddah Meor Zainal Abidin said the target was based on the ability of clients to use the Consultancy Management System (COMS).
COMS was developed as part of the AGD’s ICT Strategic Plan to enhance its online consultancy services and application process.
“AGD has more than 400 clients but we are targeting 30 government agencies for SAGA compliance certification every year beginning this year. Our assessment shows that only 120 are ready to use COMS,” she said.
She was met by reporters at the launch of COMS and SAGA compliance certification award presentation here last night, which was officiated by Accountant General Datuk Che Pee Samsudin.
Sixteen government agencies nationwide were awarded the certification including Ipoh Municipal Council, which is also the first local authority in the country to receive it.
Rihatun Abddah said AGD clients comprised the federal government, state governments, statutory bodies, state Islamic religious councils, local authorities and private sector.
Meanwhile, Che Pee said the certification meant that the accounting and financial system of the agencies concerned is more efficient, stable and has the best security system features.
He also hoped more ministries, departments and local authorities would use COMS to communicate with the AGD.
